The state of New Mexico’s lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency stemming from the 2015 Gold King Mine spill is reported to be on hold.

The state’s attorney general now says an agreement has been reached to settle New Mexico’s claims against the EPA reported the Farmington Daily Times.

At the time of the blowout in a Colorado gold mine, Oklahoma U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe was chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and was heavily critical of the EPA’s handling of the cleanup project that led to the huge spill into nearby rivers.

He openly blamed the EPA for allowing cleanup work to proceed at the abandoned mine “causing the blowout.”

The spill near Silverton, Colorado sent 3 million gallons of rust-colored sludge into Colorado’s Animas River which eventually flowed into New Mexico.
