A possible de-escalation of the tension between Moscow and Europe sent crude oil prices tumbling more than 3% and more than $3 a barrel in Tuesday’s trading.
The retreat from a seven-year high came after Russia’s Putin claimed some of the military units gathered along the border of Ukraine were returning to their bases.
Benchmark U.S. crude oil for March delivery fell $3.39 to $92.07 a barrel Tuesday on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Brent crude for April delivery fell $3.20 to $93.28 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
March natural gas rose 11 cents to $4.31 per 1,000 cubic feet.
While many Oklahoma energy stocks recorded losses in Tuesday’s trading, including Continental Resources at more than 5% down, a handful made large gains.
LSB Industries went up nearly 5% while Matrix Service Inc. rose 6%.
