As OPEC + prepared to meet Tuesday, crude oil prices finished higher in Monday’s trading and took Oklahoma energy stocks along for the ride.
West Texas Intermediate crude for February delivery rose 87 cents to finish at $76.08 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude also for February delivery jumped $1.20 or 1.5% to close at $78.98 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
The price increase came a day ahead of the OPEC+ meeting where it might agree to another increase in its crude oil output. February natural gas rose 9 cents to $3.82 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Oklahoma energy stocks opened the week in a strong fashion as Laredo Petroleum led the way with a 13% gain. Others had a strong showing too. NGL Energy Partners went up 10% and Helmerich & Payne rose 7%.
