Oklahoma Republican Congressman Markwayne Mullin is among the GOP members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee wanting congressional hearings into rising energy prices.

They asked Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, a Democrat, in a formal letter to begin hearings into the issue and what the Biden administration’s Department of Energy is doing about it.

“We have serious concerns about rapidly rising energy prices and the negative impact these price increases are having on the U.S. economy, inflation, and household bills,” stated the Republicans in their letter.

They explained that energy prices under the Biden administration have reached seven-year highs and the price of gasoline has nearly doubled since last year.

” Compared with last winter’s heating costs, the Department of Energy (DOE) forecasts U.S. households will spend 54 percent more for propane, 43 percent more for heating oil, 30 percent more for natural gas, and 6 percent more for electric heating. U.S. households will spend even more if the weather is colder than expected,” stated Rep. Mullin and other Republican Representatives.

Rep. Pallone did not respond publicly to the request. The same Republicans on the committee also wrote last month to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm wanting to know what the administration was doing to ease the rising energy prices.
