U.S. home heating bills expected to surge this winter, EIA says | Reuters

Arkansas customers of CenterPoint Energy are being told they can expect the average residential bill this winter will increase by 42%.

The company is the largest provider of natural gas in Arkansas and said the average bill will go from $92 a month to $131. CenterPoint has nearly 400,000 residential and commercial customers in the state.

“These increases are not just in Arkansas but across the U.S. and globally,” said Ross Corson, a spokesman for CenterPoint. He added that the 42% jump in prices is the largest in several years.

The company said the actual bill impact will vary by customer, depending on the size and age of the home, the number of gas appliances, number of people in the household, thermostat settings, levels of insulation and other factors.
