With a growing demand for more fuel across the globe, oil prices on Monday saw a 1.5% gain for the day and in the U.S. they reached the $80 mark. Oklahoma energy stocks didn’t have the same kind of day.
West Texas Intermediate crude went up $1.15 or 1.5% and finished the day at $80.52, the highest level since 2014 when it reached more than $82 a barrel.
Global benchmark Brent crude also saw a 1.5% gain for the day as the price rose $1.26 and closed at $83.65 a barrel, its highest mark since October 2018 when the price hit $84.60.
Analysts say oil companies have resorted to putting their money into dividends and cleaner energy and as a result, production has been slowed somewhat despite the worldwide pace of an economic recovery.
Despite hitting the $80 price in the U.S., Oklahoma energy stocks didn’t have the same kind of response. A few, Blueknight Energy Partners and Chesapeake Energy recorded 5% gains but for others, the day proved to be fairly weak.
