Crude oil prices continued their climb upward in Monday’s trading as Brent crude hit a 3-year high and a penny short of $86 a barrel. Oklahoma energy stocks went along for the ride too.
The global benchmark, set for December delivery rose 46 cents and finished the day at $85.99 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
West Texas Intermediate crude, also for December delivery hit the highest mark since October 2014 but settled at $83.76 a barrel, unchanged for the day on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
November natural gas rose 62 cents to $5.90 per 1,000 cubic feet, strengthening government forecasts of higher gas prices for the coming winter.
The increased oil prices resulted in big gains for some Oklahoma energy stocks. Chesapeake shot up more than 9%, Laredo Petroleum nearly 8% and SandRidge 7%.
