Oil and gas industry blamed for New Mexico’s dramatic rise in earthquakes

 

Just as Oklahoma saw a dramatic increase in the number of earthquakes linked to the oil and gas industry in the past several years, New Mexico is seeing the same growth.

New Mexico’s increase, from about 40 in 2018 to nearly 500 last year, is linked to the Permian Basin according to the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources.
