While total U.S. crude supplies dropped by nearly 3 million barrels in the week ended Sept. 3, the amount of crude oil in storage at the Cushing hub in northern Oklahoma increased.
The American Petroleum Institute reported US supplies fell 2.9 million barrels. Its report was released later than usual due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday.
Crude stocks at Cushing however reportedly rose by 1.8 million barrels for the same week.
