The scaled back clean water rule adapted by the Trump administration was reversed Monday by an Arizona federal judge.

The decision by President Trump in 2020 was applauded at the time by Oklahoma congressman Frank Lucas who described it as a move cutting burdensome regulation for America’s farmers, ranchers and landowners.

“From the creeks and streams of Western Oklahoma to the dams of the Arkansas River in Tulsa County, today’s announcement by the Trump Administration is welcomed news for all Oklahomans,” he stated in January 2020.

Trump’s decision limited the number of waterways that could be federally regulated but U.S. District Court Judge Rosemary Marquez ruled leaving it in place while the EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers work on their own rulemaking could lead to “serious environmental harm.” Her ruling restored previous protections under the Navigable Waters  filled with “errors.”
