Southwest Power Pool investigators say fuel shortages drove February blackouts

The rolling blackouts that hit Texas and Oklahoma and a few other states during the February winter storms were caused largely by fuel shortages, especially in natural gas claims executives with the Southwest Power Pool.

The SPP has spent the past several months reviewing the outages that it enforced upon Oklahoma and other states during the storms. It found that natural gas turned out to be a huge problem reported the Missouri Independent.

It also found that less than half of the SPP’s ‘accredited’ natural gas-powered electricity was available at the height of the cold snap.
