Oil and gas rig numbers increased in US and Oklahoma

Rig count soars in Oklahoma, nationwide

 

The number of oil and gas rigs exploring for new energy increased in Oklahoma to reach 30 while nationally, the rig count grew by 7 to reach 491.

Oklahoma’s count was up one from a week ago and 20 higher than a year ago according to figures provided by Baker Hughes. The U.S. count included an addition of 7 more oil rigs to reach a total of 387 while the number of gas drilling rigs stayed at 104.

The U-S count is 240 higher from a year ago when the nation had 251 oil and gas rigs in operation. In the past year, the increase included 206 more oil rigs and 36 more gas rigs.

Texas saw an increase of 6 to reach 228 rigs while Colorado stayed at 12 and Louisiana’s count slipped by 2 to 52 rigs.

New Mexico was unchanged at 75. North Dakota stayed at 18 and Ohio continued with 10 active rigs. West Virginia’s count continued at 10 and Pennsylvania was unchanged at 18. Wyoming’s count remained at 13.

The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita reported the Kansas rig count increased by one to 30 in the past week.

Of the oil plays, the Granite Wash increased by one to 2 active rigs. The Ardmore Woodford grew by one to 2 rigs while the Arkoma Woodford was unchanged at one rig.

The Eagle Ford  stayed at 32 rigs and the D-J Basin in Colorado was unchanged at 11 rigs. The Haynesville count dropped one to 48 rigs while the Marcellus continued with 28 rigs.

The Permian Basin saw an increase of 4 rigs to reach 242 while the Utica play was unchanged at 10 rigs.

The Williston remained at 18 rigs.
