Rig growth in US and Oklahoma stalled last week

The latest oil and gas rig count from Baker Hughes Co. showed a decline of one in the past week leaving a total of 456 active rigs while Oklahoma was unchanged at 28.

Figures showed Oklahoma’s 28 working rigs compared to 11 one year ago. Nationally, the numbers showed oil rigs were unchanged at 359 while the total of gas rigs slipped one to 97.

The U.S. count of 456 is still 172 more than the 284 rigs reported a year ago including 153 more oil rigs and 21 additional gas rigs.  It also compares to Canada where the number of active rigs in the past week increased by 15 to 77.

Texas numbers saw a decline of 2 to 216, just short of doubling the 115 reported last year at this time. Colorado was unchanged at 9 rigs while the number in Louisiana slipped one to 52.

New Mexico’s count increased by 2 to 73 while North Dakota was unchanged at 16. Ohio stayed at 10 and Pennsylvania continued with 17. Also unchanged for the week were West Virginia with 11 rigs and Wyoming with 4.

The Ardmore Woodford in Oklahoma saw an increase of one to 2 working rigs while the Arkoma Woodford stayed at one.

The Granite Wash saw a loss of 2, leaving only one working rig.

The D-J in Colorado was unchanged at 6 rigs while the Eagle Ford of South Texas stayed at 33. The Haynesville added one to reach 48 while the Marcellus continued with 28 working rigs.

The Permian Basin which covers West Texas and Southeast New Mexico saw a loss of one rig to 232. The Utica remained at 10 and the Williston was unchanged at 16 rigs.
