Produced water session to be presented Friday

The Oklahoma Water Resources Center will hold a second session on Friday of its Produced Water Treatment and Reuse Seminar series.

The largest volume by-product of oil and gas production is produced water. The average oil well in the U.S. produces over 9 barrels of water per barrel of oil.

The Friday session will begin at 10 a.m. and include a presentation by Kyle Murray from the University of Oklahoma whose topic will be “A Pathway to Recovering Critical Minerals and Industrial Elements from Oklahoma’s Produced Water.”

Mark Nanny, also from the University of Oklahoma will discuss “Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering Spectroscopy as a
Real-Time Sensor for Polyatomic Anions and Organic Compounds in Produced Water.”

David Leavitt from Oklahoma State University will deliver a presentation entitled, “Membrane Distillation Crystallization of Highly Concentrated Brines – Resource Recovery from
Produced Water and Fertilizer Solutions.”

The water series has focused on produced water from Oklahoma’s oil and gas operations. The largest volume by-product from the production is produced water. The average oil well in the U.S. produces over 9 barrels of water per barrel of oil.
