Texas has followed Oklahoma in creating a law that bans cities and local governments from banning natural gas as a fuel. The move by Oklahoma was first made in 2020 in response to the effort a few years ago by California to ban natural gas use.

Oklahoma Rep. Terry O’Donnell, R-Catoosa and Sen. Mark Allen, R-Spiro authored the measure to prohibit communities from outlawing natural gas hookups or requiring solar energy use or in any other regulating that energy source must be used within building codes.

Gov. Kevin Stitt signed it last year.

This week, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott did the same and signed House Bill 17 into law reported the Texas Tribune.
