Rig Counts Drop Across the U.S.

The latest data supplied by Texas-based Enverus Rig Analytics reveals the U.S. rig count tumbled for the second week in a row. As of May 26, 2021, the total U.S. rig count is 511, down by nine for the week.

The largest month-over-month decline by region occurred in the Appalachian region, falling by four to 45. Four operators reduced their rig counts by one each including Gulfport Energy, which is now operating a single rig. The other three companies have two active rigs each.

The Permian Basin lost four rigs while the Williston Basin fell by three. The Gulf Coast Basin (including Eagle Ford) dropped two rigs since last week. Enverus reported that the Marcellus/Utica Basin added four active rigs and the Anadarko Basin gained one.
