The Petroleum Alliance, Oklahoma’s largest trade association representing the entirety of the state’s oil and natural gas industry, has announced the addition of veteran environmental and regulatory affairs professional Angie Burckhalter to its staff.
Burckhalter joins the Alliance as Senior Vice President of Environmental and Regulatory Affairs and brings with her more than 30 years or regulatory experience.
“There is no question that we will see an effort to increase regulations on our industry during the Biden Administration,” Petroleum Alliance President Brook A. Simmons said. “Angie’s proven experience in our industry makes her the perfect addition to our staff as we work to protect our members from harmful, duplicative or overly-burdensome regulatory efforts.”
A former vice president of regulatory affairs at the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association, a Petroleum Alliance legacy organization, Burckhalter began her professional career as a petroleum geologist.
She later obtained her environmental engineering degree from Oklahoma State and worked as an as an environmental engineer at Tinker Air Force Base before becoming a supervisory environmental engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Corps’ Tulsa district.
In 2001, she joined the OIPA staff, where she collaborated with the association’s membership to build consensus and develop unified positions on proposed state and federal environmental legislation, regulations, policies and guidance important to members.
In 2012, Burckhalter left the OIPA to join Devon Energy as an EHS Supervisor, and in 2018, she joined Continental Resources as an environmental and regulatory affairs advisor.
“We face a host of issues targeting our industry,” Burckhalter said. “But through active engagement at the state and federal levels, we will ensure we have a seat at the table to eliminate or minimize the negative impacts of new policies, guidance and regulations on our membership.”
The Petroleum Alliance of Oklahoma is a trade association in Oklahoma that represents more than 1,300 member companies and their tens of thousands employees engaged in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the state’s defining industry.
