Oklahoma’s rig count on the increase

Figures from Baker Hughes released on Friday showed Oklahoma’s oilfield activity is slowly on the rise, reaching a total of 26 oil and gas rigs.

That’s an increase of two in the past week and the 26 compared to only 12 rigs reported one year ago amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nationally, the count rose by two to 455 including an increase of four oil rigs bringing the oil rig count to 356. The number of gas rigs fell one to 99. The U.S. count is 137 higher now than the 318 reported one year ago. The increase includes 119 more oil rigs and 20 more gas rigs.

Texas had a decline of two rigs but still reported 214 rigs. New Mexico’s count rose by two to 72. North Dakota was unchanged at 16.

The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil
and Gas Service in Wichita showed the Kansas rig count increased by two to 25.

Colorado remained at 10 while Louisiana’s count slipped by two to 53. Ohio stayed at 10 rigs and Pennsylvania was unchanged at 19. West Virginia continued at 11 rigs while Wyoming’s count stayed at four rigs.

2 dead in explosion, fire at Oklahoma oil rig

The Ardmore and Arkoma Woodfords in Oklahoma finally reported their first rig activity in nearly a year. Each had one rig active in the past week. The D-J Basin in Colorado was unchanged at 7 rigs while the Eagle Ford of South Texas saw a drop of one to 32 rigs.

The Granite Wash in Oklahoma stayed at three rigs while the Haynesville play dropped one to 47 rigs.

The Marcellus was unchanged at 30 rigs while the Permian Basin stayed at 231. The Utica continued with 10 rigs while the Williston was unchanged at 16 rigs.
