Kansas Senator accuses EPA of inaction

A state senator in Kansas and former mayor of El Dorado, home to one of the state’s three oil refineries contends the state is positioned to make a strong economic comeback after the pandemic, but claims refineries are still facing headwinds because of inaction by the EPA.

Sen. Michael Fagg, writing in the Wichita Eagle said it’s time the Environmental Protection Agency waived its Renewable Fuel Standard requirements which are based on 2019 consumption patterns. He says the pandemic crippled refineries because they were forced to blend a certain amount of renewable fuels at the 2019 levels while gasoline consumption in 2020 was much lower.
