Anti-oil congresswoman wants to hear from Devon Energy leader

Devon Energy CEO Richard Muncrief is one of three energy company leaders asked by anti-oil Democrat Katie Porter of California to testify next week before the U.S. House Natural Resources Oversight subcommittee.

Whether he, Exxon Mobil CEO Darren Woods and EOG Resources CEO William Thomas will attend is another matter.

POLITICO reported this week that it’s highly unlikely they will go before her subcommittee next Wednesday.

Porter has a notorious reputation for attacking the oil and gas industry and recently tweeted.

“The oil and gas industry gets billions in taxpayer dollars to subsidize their contributions to our economy. But I’m curious… how are these corporations spending on the public good? I invited some CEOs to testify before @NRDems so my colleagues and I can find out.”

As POLITICO noted, “When Sen. Bernie Sanders summoned oil execs for a similar panel last month, none made the trip.”

Rep. Porter has a reputation of attacking oil and gas and recently charged that outdoor spaces are under attack.

” Big Oil companies are trying to get rich off our public lands and rip off taxpayers in the process—not on my watch,” proclaimed the congresswoman in a newsletter last week.

She recently introduced the Ending Taxpayer Welfare for Oil and Gas Companies Act to ” raise fees on corporate polluters and hold them accountable.”

The bill has already been moved out of the House Natural Resources Committee.
