North Texas wind farms sue Citigroup over charges from February winter storm

A Canadian company that operates two north Texas wind farms filed suit this week against Citigroup Inc. for denying the firm’s force majeure declarations during the historic February storm and billing it more than $100 million for replacement power.

Reuters reported Shannon Wind near Henrietta, Texas and Flat Top Wind near Comanche, Texas are subsidiaries of Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. Both suffered stoppages of electrical power when the turbines froze in the arctic-like weather. The two wind farms at the time were under contract to deliver power at fixed prices to Citi Energy which is a unit of Citigroup Inc.
