Texas power companies try to block release of storm-related records

Legal battles are underway in Texas to determine whether utilities and power companies should reveal information about what went wrong in the February winter storm and power crisis.

Many of the power companies are fighting the release of the information to the media. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has been hit with hundreds of Open Records requests.

KHOU TV in Houston reported how dozens of power companies contend their information is private and “competitively sensitive information” and would reveal “trade secrets.” Similar terms were used by Oklahoma utilities as they sought protection from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.
