Her views on the environment are considered to be too extreme for Republicans on the U.S . Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee, but the committee will vote Thursday on the nomination of Rep. Deb Haaland to be the Biden administration’s Interior Secretary.
Many observers think the New Mexico Democrat will win a positive recommendation from the committee after chairman Sen. Joe Manchin came out last week and endorsed her.
His support followed opposition by Oklahoma U.S. Sen. James Lankford who issued a statement after he was part of two rounds of questioning Rep. Haaland.
“—Rep. Haaland’s legislative record and testimony demonstrate her commitment to an unrealistic energy reality. I cannot support her nomination to serve as the Secretary of the Interior.”
The Senate committee vote will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. Oklahoma time.
