Rig counts drop in Oklahoma and across the US

 

Oklahoma’s struggling oil and gas rig numbers declined in the past week, following what happened nationally when the industry put fewer rigs into the field.

The nation’s count declined by one in the past week to 402 and Oklahoma’s numbers fell by one, leaving only 16 working rigs exploring for oil and gas.

The national numbers included a drop of one in oil rigs to 309 while the number of gas rigs remained at 92. The US count is down 390 from the 792 rigs reported one year earlier.

In the past year, the decline has included a drop of 374 oil rigs and 15 gas rigs.

Texas remains the most active where the count increased one to 203 compared to the 408 a year ago. New Mexico numbers declined one to 60. Colorado stayed at 8 and Louisiana remained at 45 working rigs.

North Dakota’s count slipped one to 12 and Ohio added two to reach 9 working rigs. Pennsylvania saw a drop of two to 18 working rigs while the number in West Virginia grew by one to 12. Wyoming’s count was unchanged at 5 rigs.

Oklahoma’s Arkoma and Ardmore Woodfords still have no rig activity based on Baker Hughes numbers. The Permian Basin saw a growth of one rig to 212. The Haynesville numbers slipped one to 45. The Marcellus count dropped one to 30.

The Mississippian had no drilling activity. The D-J Niobrara was unchanged at 7. The Eagle Ford stayed at 29. The Granite Wash had no drilling activity.

The Mississippian is also empty of activity. The Utica added two to reach 9 rigs. The Williston in North Dakota and Montana dropped one.
