President declares emergency in Oklahoma

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt reached out to the federal government and asked for a national declaration over the historic winter storm that kept the state in a literal deep freeze for nearly two weeks. And it didn’t take long for President Biden to act and give the assistance.

The President quickly declared that an emergency exists in Oklahoma and ordered federal assistance to state, tribal and local responses to the historic weather event. It means FEMA will coordinate all disaster relief efforts, even as temperatures are rising and the power outage situation has improved statewide.

Under the declaration, FEMA is authorized to mobilize and provide equipment and resources necessary to ease the impacts of the emergency. The measures will be provided at 75% federal funding.

Gov. Stitt spoke this week with President Biden and said the President pledged the federal government’s support, reported the McCarville Report.
