Crude oil futures rose again in Thursday’s trading but it didn’t translate strongly for many energy stocks.
West Texas Intermediate crude rose 54 cents to finish the day at $56.23 a barrel for March delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude saw a 38 cent increase to $58.84 barrel for April delivery on ICE Futures Europe.
Otherwise, it was kind of a weak trading day Thursday for Oklahoma energy stocks.
Chesapeake Energy suffered a more than 12% loss a day after announcing it intended to lay off 220 workers as part of its emergence from bankruptcy in the coming week.
As for the gainers, they included Alliance Resource Partners, L.P. where stocks went up half a point or 3 cents to reach $6.26.
Cimarex Energy Co rose 5 cents to $46.88., a gain of 0.11%.
