She’s now officially Congresswoman Bice

With the swearing in of newly-elected freshman Rep. Stephanie Bice, Oklahoma’s U.S. House delegation returned to an all-Republican group.

Bice, the former Oklahoma City-area state senator who upset incumbent Democrat congresswoman Kendra Horn took her oath of office on Sunday as the 117th Congress got underway in Washington, D.C.

Bice joined Republican Reps. Tom Cole, Kevin Hern, Frank Lucas and Markwayne Mullin in the House. During her campaign, Bice linked Horn to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who was one of her targets.

“I’m ready to work diligently for Oklahomans to propose meaningful legislation that will strengthen our economy and put Americans back to work,” she said in a statement.

“We have tremendous challenges before us as a nation and we need a Congress that can get things done.”

After being sworn into office, she voted for Republican Kevin McCarthy of California to be speaker but he lost to Democrat Nancy Pelosi. McCarthy received 209 votes while Pelosi received 216 votes.

Still to be decided are the committee assignments for Rep. Bice. It is unknown if she will be appointed to any energy-related assignments.
