If you’re like me, your driving habits have changed immensely as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. My vehicles sit for longer periods in the garage, leading me to wonder if other drivers might have the same assessment—that I have mentally converted miles per gallon to weeks per gallon.
Maybe it’s been 3 weeks since I refueled my SUV. Might be closer to a month. So now I have started thinking about how many weeks of driving, maybe even months, can I get on a tank of gasoline.
Just as I speculated about this on Wednesday, the Environmental Protection Agency released a report indicating gas mileage for new vehicles dropped and pollution increased in the model year 2019—a first in five years.
According to a report by the Associated Press, mileage dropped to 24.9 miles per gallon and greenhouse gas emissions increased to 356 grams per mile.
