Finances of Interior nominee revealed this week

As she prepares to possibly become the new Secretary of the Interior Department, New Mexico Democratic Rep. Deb Haaland filed financial disclosure documents this week.

They showed she had no outside income of her job as a member of Congress with the exception of a $175 annual stipend from the Laguna Pueblo of which she is a member.

The report also showed she had no  savings over $5,000 and also did not have a retirement plan.

Haaland’s report revealed she still carried a student loan debt of between $15,000 and $50,000 from her days at the University of New Mexico where she earned a law degree in 2006.

The congresswoman was nominated by President-elect Biden and will take office if she is confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
