Norman school leaders support carbon neutral policy

The Norman School Board voted this week to adopt a resolution putting the district on a path of becoming one of the country’s few carbon neutral school districts.

All five board members supported the resolution prompting Sarah Chan, chairwoman of Solar Schools Norman to call it a “first step in the pursuit to offset 100% of the district’s energy use and cost.”

The Renewable Energy Resolution pledges that Norman Public Schools will “continue efforts toward increasing the use of abundant, affordable, clean, renewable energy.” It is part of the city of Norman’s adoption in 2018 of a Ready for 100 resolution.

The Ready for 100 effort aims to make communities powered by 100% clean and renewable energy.

The Solar Schools Norman (SSN) Team, which drove the creation, writing and adoption of the new Renewable Energy Resolution by the school board, is a sub-committee of the Norman RF100 Coalition.
