New Mexico Governor to remain and not take Biden administration position

Reports now indicate New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham will stay in office and not take any administrative positions with a Biden administration.

Over the weekend she ended speculation that first had her being considered to be Interior Secretary, a position she declined last week, then to be considered to run the U.S. Health and Human Services Department.

But on Sunday, the governor issued a statement.

“As I’ve consistently said, I have the best job in the world as governor of New Mexico,” Lujan Grisham said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the Biden administration as we tackle the challenges we’re facing here in New Mexico and also across the country; COVID-19, combating climate change, and rebuilding our nation’s economy are just a few of the areas where we need to make significant progress right now.”

The New York Times reported over the weekend that Biden selected Xavier Becerra, the Democratic attorney general of California and a former congressman, as his nominee for secretary of health and human services.

Lujan Grisham remains as a co-chair of Biden’s transition team.

New Mexico Democratic congresswoman Deb Haaland is reported to still being considered for interior secretary.
