DEQ to be updated on Supreme Court ruling impact on environmental regulations in eastern Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Environmental Quality Board will hold a virtual meeting Sept. 15 where it will get an update on environmental regulations as a result of the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that indicated much of eastern Oklahoma is now considered Indian country.

DEQ General Counsel Robert Singletary will give the update but it will be for information purposes only and no action by the board is expected at the meeting.

Executive Director Scott Thompson will also update the board in agency accomplishments and activities since the last board meeting. DEQ Chief Financial Officer Kathy Aebischer will also give an update and outlook on the DEQ’s budget for Fiscal Year 2021.

The meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday and afterward, the Board will hold a virtual public forum for any comments or input from the public.
