He’s running! Sen. Inhofe announced re-election bid

Oklahoma U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe figures that at age 85, he’s not ready to retire from politics or life in Washington, D.C.

He’s announced he will seek re-election, telling The Oklahoman reporter Chris Casteel that the emergency heart surgery he had in 2013 gave him “a new lease on life.”

“I put two new engines in my big plane. I figured at my age I ought to be flying with new engines. That’s a pretty good indication of how I feel if I spend that much money, knowing I’m going to be around to appreciate it.”

Inhofe, who once chaired the U.S. Senate Energy and Public Works Committee and is still a ranking Republican on the body has been in the Senate since 1994. He previously served in the House from 1987 to 1994 and once was mayor of Tulsa.

He is also the current chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

The filing period is about five weeks away.
