Small phone companies ask for more funding from regulators

The distribution of more than $1.1 million in Oklahoma Universal Service Fund money to a handful of small telephone companies will be considered Wednesday by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

The largest quest was made by Cross Telephone Company based in Warner, a company that provides service to 14 towns and cities in eastern Oklahoma. It applied for $952,465.70 in OUSF funding in one application and $53,823.78 in another, making a total of more than $1 million from the fund.

Dobson Telephone Company, doing business as McLoud Telelphone company requested $90,726.66. Dobson also requested another $35.865.611 from the fund.

Oklatel Communications submitted four requests for funding. A small company serving customers in Hughes, McIntosh and Okmulgee counties, the firm made separate requests of $65,170.55; $4,104.38; $3,570.48 and $2,945.94. It made for a total of nearly $76,000 requested by the firm.

The requests will be part of a regular corporation commission meeting that starts at 9:30 a.m.
