Federal board to release investigative report on fatal rig explosion

A federal agency investigating the Jan. 22, 2018 rig explosion and fire that killed 5 workers near Quinton, Oklahoma plans to  release its findings in June.

The U.S. Chemical Hazard and Safety Board has already determined that some alarms on the rig were not turned on when the deadly explosion happened at Pryor Trust 0718 gas well number 1H-9.

Red Mountain Energy, LLC was the lease holder and Red Mountain Operating LLC was the operator of the gas well. Patterson-UTI Drilling Company, LLC was the drilling contractor  and had been hired by Red Mountain Operating to drill the well.

The Chemical Safety Board plans a June 12 news conference in Oklahoma City t o release full details of the results of the investigation.

Lawsuits have been filed against the operators by families of the five men who died in the fire.
