Rep. Lucas warns House not to veer from space exploration

Oklahoma Congressman Frank Lucas is one of those who thinks the U.S. should push to explore the Moon and Mars.

The Ranking Republican on the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology made it clear in a recent hearing on America in Space.

“NASA should build the systems necessary to explore the Moon, Mars and beyond in a stepping stone approach that maintains the multi-mission nature of the agency,” said the Western Oklahoma Representative in opening remarks. “I trust the Committee’s leadership will maintain that direction and I look forward to working with them on that goal.”

The Committee is now under Democratic control and Rep. Lucas said these are exciting times for the nation’s space enterprise.

“The investments of the past two decades are now coming to fruition,” he continued. “Congress has been successful in maintaining a constancy of purpose across Administrations but the task requires continued diligence.”

But he reminded others on the committee that while Congress stayed constant in the 2005, 2008 and 2010 and 2017 Authorization Acts, numerous administrations attempted to veer off the course.
