Rig count grew nationally but slipped in Oklahoma

Oklahoma’s rig count dropped by one in the past week while nationally, numbers grew by 3 to reach 1,083 active oil and gas rigs.

Oklahoma’s count dropped to 140 according to Baker Hughes Co. The national count saw an addition of 2 oil rigs to reach a total of 885 while the number of gas rigs gr3w by one to hit 198. The U.S. rig count is 154 higher than a year ago when there were 929 active rigs.

In Canada the rig count plummeted 66 to reach 70.

The Oklahoma rig count compares to 532 in Texas where there was an addition of one in the past week. Kansas fell by 8 to reach 35 according to the Red Top Rig Report while Colorado remained at 34. New Mexico was steady at 106 and North Dakota stayed at 53 working rigs. Wyoming dropped one to 34.

Of the various oil plays, the Woodfords in Oklahoma stayed at 8 while the Granite Wash added one to hit eleven rigs. The Mississippi remained at 8 while the Permian in West Texas and Southeast New Mexico was steady at 486 working rigs.

The D-J Niobrara remained at 30 and the Eagle Ford stayed at 80. The Williston in North Dakota remained at 56 working rigs.
