Southwestern State to offer program on cleanup of streams affected by mining

            A program on remediating streams that have been affected by mining activity will be held this Wednesday, October 31, at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

            Dr. Robert W. Nairn, professor in the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science at the University of Oklahoma, will speak at 4 p.m. in Room 212 of the Old Science Building on the SWOSU campus. The public is invited to the free event.

Nairn, who is a David L. Boren Professor and Viersen Presidential Professor at OU,

 will talk on “Reversing the Irreversible: Ecotoxic Metal Retention in Ecologically Engineered Passive Treatment Systems Contributes to Stream Recovery in a Mining-Disturbed Watershed.”

The talk is part of the J.D. Maness Biology Seminar Series at SWOSU.
