OGE observes installation of LED street lights in Bethany

Ceremonies were held Wednesday marking OGE’s installation of new smart LED lighting on historic Route 66 in the City of Bethany.

OGE explained it was building upon the innovative Smart Grid platform and replaced 250,000 street and security lights with smart LED lights in its 30,000 square-mile service area.

The smart LED lights allow OGE to remotely and instantaneously monitor and control lights and receive a digital notification if a lamp is in need of maintenance.

Bethany is the first municipality to get streetlights proactively converted to LED lighting. Full deployment for the remainder of OGE’s service area is estimated by 2023.

The utility indicated it will implement LED lighting through attrition as current street lights fail.
