Rig Count Steady in Oklahoma But Nation’s Count Drops 15

Oklahoma’s rig count remained the same in the past week while the nationwide count slipped by 15 as oil prices slipped in the past few days.

The Baker Hughes Co. reported the U.S. rig count fell to 913. The number of oil rigs fell by 7to reach 736 while the gas rig count dropped by 8 to hit 177. Nationwide, the county is still 360 more than the 553 oil and gas rigs reported one year ago.

Oklahoma’s county remained steady at 124 oil and gas rigs compared to 73 a year ago. The count in Texas dropped by 8 to reach 436 including the loss of six rigs in the Permian Basin, the nation’s most productive oil and gas play. In the Permian alone, there remains 378 working rigs compared to 212 one year ago.

Colorado’s count remained steady at 34 while in Kansas, the Independent Oil and Gas Association’s Red Top Rig Report showed a growth of 4 rigs over the past week to reach 42. Louisiana stayed at 65 while New Mexico dropped one to reach 68. North Dakota remained at 58.

Of the oil plays, the Mississippian’s count remained at 5 while the Granite Wash also was steady at a dozen working rigs. The Eagle Ford in south Texas added two to reach 65 while the Woodfords in Oklahoma lost one rig to hit 12.
