What Drought?

Eight months ago, only about 6 percent of Oklahoma was not in a drought.

After weeks of rainfall that is close to breaking the 1915 record, now 96% of Oklahoma is not in a drought, according to Gary McManus, State Climatologist at the Oklahoma Mesonet.

That’s what the state looked like on August 1 of this year compared with the drought monitor on Aug. 22.

As McManus pointed out in his Thursday Mesonet report, only 3.9% of Oklahoma is considered to be abnormally dry. On Jan. 2, 2017, 94% of the state was considered to be in the classification.

So things are looking grand for Oklahoma, unless that nasty fella Harvey messes
things up for us.
