The federal government has joined the probe into a natural gas explosion that destroyed a Firestone, Colorado home and killed two men last month.
The National Transportation Safety Board has started looking into the matter because pipelines are a method of transporting oil and natural gas.
The Denver Post reported this week investigators are probing whether there are any safety issues that could have a national policy impact, though results will be slow in coming.
“A typical accident investigation can take 12 to 18 months before a probable cause is determined,” said a spokesman with the NTSB. “We are working closely with the local authorities in that area.”
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and local police have already started an investigation.
