Chesapeake Still Battling Royalty Lawsuits in South Texas

Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy finds itself still fighting lawsuits by 110 royalty owners in the Eagle Ford shale of south Texas. In recent days, the Texas Multidistrict Litigation Panel took over and ordered a pretrial consolidation of the claims of those who contend they were underpaid by Chesapeake.

But according to some of the court filings, there is the possibility of another 200 or more plaintiffs in Zapata county. The documents indicated Chesapeake Energy has agreed to produce Accounting Reconciliation Sheets for some of the cases.

It’s not the first such litigation Chesapeake faced in Texas in an argument over royalty payments. another was filed last year over payments in the Barnett Shale play.
