Rig Counts Slip in Oklahoma and Across the U.S.

Both Oklahoma and the U.S. started the week with one less oil and gas rig in the mix, according to figures from Baker Hughes Co. of Houston. The national count slipped by one to reach 568, which is still 199 fewer rigs than the 767 counted a year ago at this time.

Oklahoma’s count was trimmed by one to reach 75, still ten below the count last year. Nationally, the week’s count included two more oil rigs to reach a total of 452 while the number of gas rigs fell by two to hit 115.

This week’s count is still 122 fewer oil rigs and 78 fewer gas rigs when compared to the count last year.

Of the oil plays, the Mississippian in northern Oklahoma reports  two active rigs, same as last week and 10 rigs in the Granite Wash, the same count as a week ago. The Arkoma Woodford has 5 active rigs, the same number over the past week while the Ardmore Woodford has no active rigs according to Baker Hughes.

The Permian in Texas remained at 218 while the Eagle Ford in south Texas added three rigs to reach 38.

The count in Colorado remained at 18 and stayed at 48 in Louisiana. New Mexico’s count fell by one to reach 31 while the count in North Dakota was down two to reach 35. The total count for Texas was still 268 from a week ago. While Baker Hughes reported no rigs active in Kansas, the Red Top Rig report issued by the Independent Oil and Gas Inc. showed a count of 50 active rigs, an increase of 8 from a week ago. The Red Top Rig report also showed there were 143 stacked rigs in Kansas.
