Pawnee to be Site of Weekend Earthquake Forum

Pawnee, the city hit by an early September earthquake measuring 5.8 magnitude, the largest ever recorded in Oklahoma plans to host an earthquake forum on Saturday.

The forum will also be hosed by the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma t the Pawnee Nation Roam Chief Event Center, 810 Morris Road in Pawnee. it will be held from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m..

Among the speakers will be Pawnee Mayor brad Sewell, Andrew Knife Chief, Executive Director of the Pawnee Nation and Dr. Todd Halihan of Oklahoma State University. Others will be Dr. Priyank Jaiswal of OSU, Dr. Nori Nataka of the University of Oklahoma, and Johnson Bridgwater, Director of the Oklahoma Chapter of the Sierra Club.

As announced by the city and the tribe, the discussions will focus on a number of issues related to the earthquakes and their apparent connection to wastewater injection wells in the oil and gas industry. They include the actions by the city of Pawnee and the tribe to address the earthquakes, the correlation between the quakes and the injection wells, the seismic project undertaken by OU and OSU and how citizens can influence policy decisions related to the earthquakes and wastewater disposal.

Officials from the Oklahoma Insurance Commission will also be on hand.
