Devon Energy’s 2015 investment in 80,000 acres in Oklahoma’s oil-rich STACK play in Blaine, Canadian and Kingfisher counties is paying off as the company reports hitting another well that’s producing nearly 2,000 barrels a day.

The “Blue Ox” well is located in Blaine County and south of State highway 3 midway between Kingfisher and Watonga. It had a spud date of March 30 and drilling was finished April 30. Completion, as shown on OK Energy Today, was made August 16 in the Mississippian zone and initial production was reported at 1,937 barrels a day along with 3,301 Mcf of gas.

It was December 2015 when Devon made the purchase of 80,000 acres, increasing its total STACK holdings to 430,000 net surface acres. And that included 5,300 risked locations.

In mid-July, Devon announced another successful spacing pilot and a re cord-setting oil well in the STACK. The Pony Express well was drilled in southwest Kingfisher county and achieved a 30-day average rate of 2,100 Boe per day, consisting of 1,500 barrels of oil a day or 70 percent of the production mix.

The company said at the time that the Pony Express had the highest of any Meramec well drilled to date in the play on a per lateral foot basis. Devon also said its Alma spacing pilot tested five wells per section across a single interal in the upper Meramec. The testing as of July delivered 30-day production rates averaging 1,400 oil-equivalent barrels a day per well.
