Oklahoma’s Quapaw tribal Chief John Berrey will be among five witnesses testifying Tuesday before a Subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee as it explores unfunded mandates of the Environmental Protection Agency.

Chief Berrey will testify before the Subcommittee on Superfund, Waste Management and Regulatory Oversight as it holds a hearing on ‘Oversight of EPA Unfunded Mandates on State, Local and Tribal Governments.”  The hearing is meant to examine how the unfunded mandates issued by the EPA affect states, local units of government and tribes.

Chief Berrey will be the only tribal leader to testify at the hearing that starts at 1:30 p.m. Oklahoma time in Washington. Others offering testimony include Tennessee State Senator Mark Norris who will represent the Council of State governments; Berks County Commissioner Christian Leinbach of Pennsylvania who represents the National Association of Counties; George Hawkins, CEO and General Manager of the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority; and Robert Glicksman, Professor of Environmental Law at George Washington University.
