A Lost Vionsary—-What One Energy Expert Calls Aubrey McClendon

Some are calling the death of oilman Aubrey McClendon a great loss, not just for the energy industry but for Oklahoma City and the State.

“We’ve lost a visionary today,” said Dr. Steve Agee, dean of the Meinders School of Business at Oklahoma City University. “He was extraordinary in his ability to see things in advance of them happening.”

It’s what he told News 9’s Dana Hertneky following the Wednesday morning crash that killed the 56-year old president of American Energy Partners, an energy company he founded in 2013 after being forced out at Chesapeake Energy.

“You think about the vision he had and all the benefits that Oklahoma City and the State of Oklahoma derived from McClendon is almost remarkable,” said Agee who was among many who commented after the tragic incident where McClendon’s speeding SUV slammed into a bridge abutment.

Agee took now how McClendon started Chesapeake when he was only 29 and turned the company into one of the nation’s largest natural gas producers.

A memorial honoring McClendon will be held Saturday morning at 6:30 at the Chesapeake Boathouse he helped build along the Oklahoma River.
