Farm Organization Blasts Environmental Working Group

The non-profit Environmental Working Group says its mission is to empower people to live healthier lives in a healthier environment. But those with the National Farmers Union would disagree. They believe the EWG’s intent is to put livestock production out of business and raise the cost of food.

Chandler Goule, the National Farmers Union Sr. Vice President of Programs spoke recently at the American Farmers and Ranchers annual meeting in Norman and told Radio Oklahoma Network’s Ron Hays, “Let me tell you about the Environmental Working Group. It wants to do away with every farm program that we have.”

Goule contends the EWG wants to get rid of every farm safety net.

“They want to drive the cost of food up so high we end animal food production,” charged Goule. “If the EWG is successful, you can blame them for higher food prices.”

EWG contends its groundbreaking research has changed the debate over environmental health and it is making sure “someone is standing up for public health when government and industry won’t.”
