Oklahoma has increased rig count while the national numbers drop

Oklahoma was one of the few states that saw an increase in oil and gas rigs in the past week. The state’s count grew by 2 to 140 while the national count fell by 5 to reach 1,047.

New Mexico was the only state in the surrounding area that saw an increase in rig activity, moving upward by 2 to reach 95 rigs.

Texas slipped by 3 but remains at the top with 530 active rigs. Kansas dropped one to hit 47 and Colorado remained at 32. The count in  Louisiana fell by one to hit 55 while North Dakota dropped two to hit 54.

Nationally, number of oil rigs fell by 4 to 858 and the number of gas drilling rigs dropped one to hit 187. Compared to one year ago, the national count is still 107 more than the 940 reported this week last year.

Canada’s count rose by 12 in the past week to reach 172.

Of the active oil plays in the region, Oklahoma’s Granite Wash remained at 16 and the Mississippian was steady at 4 drilling rigs. The Woodfords remained at eleven.

The Permian Basin stayed at 474 while the Eagle Ford dropped two to reach 80.
